Richard Taylor

Richard retired as a teacher in 2014 and a friend thought he might have the voice for radio (if not the looks!). So by early 2015 he started to present the Monday Drivetime Show at Leisure FM based in Braintree and remained until the station closed in 2022.

He was absolutely delighted therefore when a year later he was given the opportunity to start a Lunchtime show at Chelmsford Community Radio. He picks theme for each show, Such as numbers, colours and types of transport. He will give the listeners everything they ever wanted and everything you never wanted to know but then realised they did, the more the factoid is weirdly interesting or interestingly weird the better….. For example for a future planet show did you know that Saturn’s density is so low that it would float on water….if you had a bath or ocean big enough to put it in!

Musically, Richard sticks to the theme. For example on the colour purple show he played of course “‘Purple Rain” by Prince, “Smoke on the water” by Deep Purple both well known but also able to play the song *Deep Purple” by Donny and Marie Osmond which is less well known.

Richard started presenting the Monday Drivetime show in September 2023. Here the emphasis is lots of bouncy fun music tracks, lots of travel updates to get the listeners home in time for tea!

When not on the air, Richard enjoys going running with a group of friends – he’s also a published author and you can pick his music-themed books up either online or in local stores.
