Kev St. John

Kev St John’s Away With The Fairies – an hour of rainbow-tinged, straight-friendly escapism. Leave Chelmsford behind and join Kev for an hour of music and chat with an LGBT flavour, visiting a new city each week.

(At least that’s the plan)

What was your first radio memory?

I used to play ice hockey at Riverside when I was a kid, and all the teams were sponsored by Essex Radio. One of the regular DJs gave me a Man of the Match award once. It was a real proud mum moment.

How did you first get into radio?

As a kid I was always taping the top 40 and compiling my own mix tapes. Probably illegal. I worked behind the scenes at BBC Essex for a bit a few years ago, and more recently alongside the CCR crew at some outdoor events.

What is your favourite song ever?

‘Bobbing Along’ from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Sad, I know. I grabbed the opportunity to sing it to Angela Lansbury when she was in London last year and she sped off in a taxi.

What three songs would you take to a Desert Island?

Macklemore ‘Same Love’ for hope, Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Sunscreen’ for inspiration, and The Weather Girl’s ‘It’s Raining Men’ in case I get… thirsty.

What is your ambition?

I’d love to get something I’ve written on the telly. And to horse ride in the snow in Canada. Just because.
